Guide to IT resources

Here is a list of the IT resources available to users and briefly how to access them.


Website

http://www.filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk Loads of resources, well worth exploring.

wiki

http://wiki.filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk User generated pages. Useful for online collaboration. eg. Creation of a projection manual - all users can contribute new pages or edit existing ones so that one person doesn't have to do all the work.

The wiki is designed for everybody to contribute to, so please feel free to add or edit pages

EPOS

Email

  • Individual email accounts
    • Exec officers and other important roles have an email address eg. president@filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk
    • Anybody with an ssh account has an email address <username>@filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk
  • These email accounts can be accessed by
    • Forwarding to an email address of your choice. Please request email forwarding from the IT officer.
    • SSH and use pine or mutt.
    • POPS/IMAPS (Not currently available). Set up Outlook, Thunderbird or whatever email client you use and add a new IMAP account.
Select use ssl and the IMAP (or incomming) server is filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk (or if using the VPN use mail.filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk).
The SMTP (or outgoing) server is mail-relay.warwick.ac.uk.

  • Mailing lists eg. it@filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk

  • Mass mailer

People with permission can send emails to anybody who has given permission to the union for their email address to be passed onto WSC.

SSH

Version Control

Currently using bzr. See Using Bazaar for more info.

VPN

Not currently available

[4] Allows access to any IT resource from outside filmsoc / university. eg. It allows you to mount the publicity drive to your own computer.


Project Management

Trac is available for project management, eg. website development. Features include:

  • Bug tracking
  • Source code browser
  • Task allocation
