Getting Involved Spiels
Stewarding involves selling and checking tickets. As a steward, you will be expected to watch the film while being aware of the audience and of people entering and leaving the theatre. You will also be expected to help clear the theatre of litter before and after the film. Stewarding can lead to duty management, which involves running shows from the Front of House perspective.
Projection is a popular area of the society, and there are limited training slots available. The waiting list is currently very short, so if you could send me your name, uni number, course and email address, I can add you and will contact you as soon as a slot becomes avalable. After an initial training session, the bulk of projection training takes place in-show - you will be running shows with a qualified projectionist there to make sure everything runs smoothly. There are a further two additional out-of-show training sessions to deal with issues you might not have had a chance to experience.
There are lots of different ways you can get involved with publicity. Firstly, towards the end of term we need people to write reviews for next term's films. These are normally between 350 and 400 words long and will get put on the website and, when we produce them, in the booklets too. We would also appreciate help on publicity runs around departments and accommodation during weekends. These will normally be organised at the start of term or in the run up to big events like the AllNighter. We also need people to find graphics and titles for the films we are showing. This is done online using many different resources. Finally, if you are interested in being involved in the design of the booklets or other publicity, then you could become an editor. This will give you the opportunity to learn how to use quark and photoshop to lay out our publicity.
Whether you are great with computers or can just about browse the web, WSC's IT Team needs you! If you aren't particularly technical we're happy to train you up, otherwise, for those with a technical aptitude, we have Hardware and Website teams each with a maintenance and new projects responsibility. Advances we make affect a large group of people and are therefore very rewarding, and broken systems cause a lot of trouble so we truly appreciate those who give up time to fix them!
